BANTAM REDS - 'BEST OF THE WEST' CHAMPIONS

The Coquitlam Reds put together a dominant weekend performance to capture the Best of the West15U Bantam Premier Showcase title in Kamloops, capping it off with an impressive 6–0 victory over the Langley Blaze in the championship final.

Wyatt Yee showed the way with an excellent pitching performance contributing to a combined no hitter with Eddie Parker. Yee was on the mound for six and one third innings, throwing no hit, shut out baseball recording seven punchies and only walking two. Parker shut the door and tallied the final two outs to claim the tournament championship. Offensive bats included Liam Hutchings, Evan Moody and Hudson Penonzek all collecting a hit each with Penzo and Hutch adding an RBI each. 

In the semifinal, the Reds handled PBR with a convincing 6–1 victory. Lewis Ballard led the the way with a two run home run and a fifth inning single cashing in another two runs. Zach Marceau earned the W with an outstanding five inning, two hit, one run effort - Ryder Miller closed out the final two innings with shut out pitching with only two hits and one punch out.

Their playoff push began in the quarterfinals, where Coquitlam earned an 8–5 win over the Delta Blue Jays in a hard-fought contest. Starting pitcher Quinn Rowland was tagged with the win, allowing no hits and two earned runs over three innings - sitting down four hitters. Hudson Penonzek pitched in relief sealing the Blue Jays fate throwing two and two thirds scoreless innings with one hit and seven K's. Key hits from Bryan Haraguchi, Evan Moody and Dawson Messenger helped with the offence along with Eddie Parker going two for two and Jaden Webb with a timely home run and three RBI. 

The Reds opened the tournament with mixed results in pod play:

  • A narrow 4–2 loss to the North Shore Twins
  • A dominant 11–1 win over the Red Deer Rangers

The Reds showcased a complete team effort throughout the tournament, combining timely hitting, strong pitching, and steady defense against some of the top programs in Western Canada.  The Reds have had an outstanding start to the 2026 BCPBL season as shown by their league record of 13-2.
